There isn't really enough information here to enable us to help you tune this application.
Do you mean tuning the DCS control loops, or the SMCA controller? Also, you said you are
seeing a lot of "disturbances". This could mean you have unmeasured disturbances in the SMCA
application (you would need additional FFWD models to take care of that). Or you could have
problems with the SMCA models that are causing the controller to respond improperly to the
process. Or, you could have problems with the way the SMCA controller is tuned. Or, you could
have DCS loops that aren't controlling properly that are causing upsets.

As you can see, there is a lot of control engineering work that goes into these type of APC
controllers. And it will be difficult to do much troubleshooting by email. If you can
narrow down your problems, and come up with specific questions, we may be able to give you
some advice. A general troubleshooting situation like this would typically require a site visit,
or at least a review of plant data and controller operating trends, to solve this problem.
